Unmasking the Trike/Bike Amazon Scam
I just received another call from a trike buyer who purchased a trike (with motor and all the extras)… she said it was a great Amazon deal! She has ridden it for 2 weeks and wants us to repair it because the company she bought it from advised her that a local bike shop could probably fix it for less than $50. Unfortunately this happens weekly and people are being scammed! These trikes/bikes are junk and we cannot repair them. It is a difficult thing to tell people but it is the truth.
Whether you are a seasoned enthusiast or a first-time buyer, understanding how these scams operate can save you significant time, stress, and money. If you want a reliable trike to enjoy for years, call us… come test ride our trikes, and enjoy the ride!
10 Red Flags: Spot the Trike Scam Online
It is actually impossible to buy a true custom-fit quality recumbent trike online. The in-person fit process is the only way to make sure all is properly adjusted.
Here are red flags to help you identify poor quality and scam listings:
- Unbelievably Low Prices — Prices significantly below market value can indicate a fraudulent deal, often used to lure unsuspecting buyers.
- Vague Product Specifications — Reliable sellers provide detailed information on model, features, and performance. Lack of specifics is a warning sign.
- Customer Feedback — Reviews are a poor way to choose a trike. Once again the in-person test ride is the way to choose your trike. Few or overly positive testimonials can be a red flag.
- Suspicious Warranty Details — Our manufacturer warranties are plainly stated and protect your investment. Clear warranty and return policies are essential; ambiguous terms may hide risks.
- Online Sales Tactics — Urgent "act now" messages are designed to push a quick decision rather than a well-informed one.
- Contact Information — Verify contact details and physical addresses, including local certified dealer support.
- Unsecured Payment Methods — Requests for wire transfers or payments through unverified channels can be a warning.
- Poor Website Design — Low-quality or unprofessional web layouts may reflect inauthentic business practices.
- Missing Legal Disclosures — Legitimate sellers provide necessary legal and compliance information.
- Unresponsive Customer Support — These companies will not and cannot repair your trike. They don't even own a wrench! Their support ends when you pay for the trike.
Pedal on, ride safely, and WooHoo!
